The Finland episode reminds me of Naomi's story of walking around what she thought was a museum. I love how the artist found you and enlisted you and Mr. B. to become his friends. After reading this, I too long for your Finnish pin.
Letting go--of things, people, the illusion of control, is a lesson that shows up every half hour on the hour, in one way or another. I understand the heartbreak of losing so many things in a way that was hurtful, that was outside of your mortal heart's timeline.
This part of your story makes me think of Grace Paley's story "Distance"

I too miss my dad. I think I can remember his voice.
Beautiful essay that touched my own memories of things I've lost and left behind. Thank you.
