I continue to hope that Churchill was right, when he (might have) said. America will always do the right thing, once they have exhausted all other possibilities. Are we now on the process of exhausting all of those other possibilities?

I cannot celebrate the 4th this year. It seems a slap in the face of the country that the original concept was based upon. It is anything but Independence Day when this country ( with the support of so many blind and bleating sheep) has imprisoned the vulnerable , imprisoned the bodies and worth of women, imprisoned civil liberties, imprisoned books, history, free speech and voting rights, sexual choice……it goes on forever. It may sound like another Hallmark card but the country was , in part, founded on those escaping tyranny. ….and yes, we began a history of theft from indigenous populations then. We are not an innocent people but the concept, the notion, the idea of independence is genuine. There has now been an historic erasure of that idea. There has been an epic rewrite of what a great country looks like. Do we mourn? Do we hope? Do we fight? If we do, that means fighting one another. Clawing at the earth for common ground. Everyone seeking kindness first. I am void of kindness for any human being that sanctioned this cancer; this pathogen; this inept human being. I can’t muster kindness for the complicit and the silent. Frankly, my contempt has kept me moving and kept me breathing. As a therapist, it’s a slippery slope but I can walk with someone through anything.

I keep telling those treading water to look for ways to balance the scales. Helping those that the fascists pigs have stripped bare and stepping in where the government has pulled out. Everyone is so God damned tired.

Thank you Patti, as always, for your words that scream the truth but without vitriol. You leave room for listening instead of reacting. I look forward to more.

I awoke oddly nostalgic today. In my dream, I was clearing out the Waterford cabin and, in doing so, desperate for one more meaningful and quiet visit. You helped me see what that feeling was about: a place of safety, open to all to enjoy; a gathering place for community, true and honest, come as you are, and all are welcome. A place of joy stemming from gratitude and sharing the abundance.

Your piece today elevated my interpretation. The cabin representing our nation as I once saw it.

I continue turning this over, feeling the loss, while grateful for your reflections on July 4 as a wide-eyed child believing it all.
